ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM FELLOWSHIP - CLASS OF 2025

United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 60,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2025 on 7,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 290+ campuses worldwide (less than 5%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sustainably Local

Sustainably Local is a University of Kansas student initiative by Kaitlyn Carson and Youngha Rissler through the Millennium Fellowship. The Fellowship is a semester-long social impact and leadership development program, encouraging students to practice and improve their skills through implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals call to action by all nations around the world to not only improve current living conditions, but protect the earth for the next generations. but preserve Sustainably Local is developing a project targeting sustainable development goal number twelve, specifically these sub-categories:
12.5 By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
12.7 Promote public procurement practices that are sustainable, in accordance with national policies and priorities
12.8 By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature
For the fellowship project, we would like to implement a sustainability initiative at the University of Kansas in three phases.

About the Millennium Fellow

At the University of Kansas, Youngha Rissler stands out as an insightful, hardworking, and dedicated student. She is currently pursuing a double major in political science and global studies. Youngha was born in rural Kansas and grew up in Southwest Missouri. Her background in America's heartland has contributed to her passion for civil rights and community. During her high school and university years, Youngha has worked towards advocating for equitable healthcare, combating sexual violence, and promoting local commerce. Youngha hopes to continue working towards a more equitable world by utilizing the United Nations' Sustainable Development framework.
