Millennium Fellowship Project: Girl Empowerment
The “Girl Empowerment” project is dedicated to nurturing the potential of young girls and women by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in all aspects of life. The initiative focuses on education, mentorship, leadership development, and life skills training to enable girls to overcome social, economic, and cultural barriers.
Through workshops, seminars, and community engagement activities, the project aims to:
Promote self-confidence, self-esteem, and resilience among girls.
Encourage academic excellence and career development in diverse fields, including science, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Provide mentorship and guidance from accomplished women role models.
Raise awareness about rights, gender equality, and health issues affecting girls.
Empower girls to make informed decisions and become active contributors to their communities
About the Millennium Fellow
Gertrude Banda is a Pharmacy student at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). She resides in Blantyre City , Malawi the southern part of Africa. She is very passionate about scientific innovation, healthcare advancements, and community empowerment. Her academic journey has been driven by a strong desire to contribute to groundbreaking solutions in healthcare and science education. Her dedication to STEM advocacy is evident through her involvement in Science for All Club, Girl Up, and inspirational talks, where she empowers young minds especially girls to excel in STEM fields. She has experienced leadership by serving different departments as the General Secretary, Treasurer and Librain which has equipped her with a humanitarian heart to always hunger to serve people with care. She is excited to be part of this Millennium Fellowship 2025 class.
