Millennium Fellowship Project: Ecoloop: Closing the loop on waste

Ecoloop is a waste management and recycling application designed to promote environmental responsibility in Lagos. The app enables users to capture evidence of individuals who mismanage waste. Once the evidence is submitted, it is sent directly to the appropriate government agencies responsible for waste management. These agencies can then identify the offenders and impose fines accordingly.
In addition, Ecoloop connects individuals with recycling centers across Lagos, making it easier to dispose of recyclables properly. This not only supports a cleaner environment but also provides residents with opportunities to earn a small income.
The first phase of the project focuses on creating awareness, as many individuals are unaware of the severity of waste mismanagement. People often don’t realize how long materials like plastic and nylon take to decompose, or the serious health and environmental hazards improper waste disposal causes.
After building this awareness, the next step is to introduce and promote the Ecoloop application, highlighting the benefits and giving every Lagos resident a compelling reason to download and use it.
