" With a unique blend of transport technology expertise and a passion for medicine, I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow as it allows me to intersect my diverse skills and drive innovative solutions in healthcare. I believe that healthcare delivery can be revolutionized through strategic planning, community engagement, and technology. Through this Fellowship, I aim to harness my multidisciplinary background to create impactful projects that improve health outcomes and inspire a new wave of healthcare leaders. The skills I gain from Millennium Fellowship in leadership, project management, and global collaboration will enable me to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education), aligning with the UNAI principles of fostering a culture of peace, understanding, and global citizenship. Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Red Hope
Project Red Hope is a collective initiative of the LASUCOM Millennium Fellows, designed to address the challenge of blood shortage in Nigeria and to promote the culture of voluntary blood donation among individuals.
To achieve its objectives, Project Red Hope was executed in two major phases:
Phase 1 – Online Awareness Webinar:
We organized a virtual sensitization program during which a haematology specialist and the executive Secretary of the blood transfusion service in our state was invited to discuss the realities of blood scarcity in Nigeria, its consequences, and the vital role of consistent blood donation. The webinar also highlighted myths and misconceptions surrounding blood donation while encouraging participants to become regular voluntary donors.
Phase 2 – Blood Donation Drive:
Following the awareness phase, we organized a blood donation exercise in collaboration with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service during which we were able to collect 88 pints of blood from student and staff of the college.
