" My passion for public and environmental health is driven by a belief that knowledge saves lives. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I am excited to strengthen my ability to creatively engage communities, especially young people, with tools and awareness that make sustainable health practices possible. This opportunity will help me align my efforts with the SDGs and turn challenges into impactful change. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Menstrual Health Awareness

The Menstrual Hygiene Awareness project was implemented to address gaps in knowledge, stigma, and poor practices related to menstrual health among girls and young women. Although menstruation is a natural biological process, many individuals lack accurate information and supportive environments to manage it safely and with dignity. This project focused on promoting understanding, positive attitudes, and healthy menstrual hygiene practices through community-based awareness activities.
The project involved conducting interactive education sessions that provided basic information about the menstrual cycle, the importance of hygiene during menstruation, proper use and disposal of sanitary materials, and the correction of common myths and misconceptions. Emphasis was placed on creating a safe and respectful space where participants could freely ask questions and share experiences without fear of judgment.
Through open discussions and simple health education, the project aimed to reduce stigma, build confidence, and empower participants with practical knowledge for self-care. The initiative also encouraged open communication about menstrual health within families and communities, recognizing that sustainable change requires collective understanding and support.
