" Through this opportunity I will be able to collaborate with like mind individuals, learn from their experience and together bring positive social change in our communities. Being part of initiatives that change lives of other people is not only impactful but it's a humane thing to do. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Waste Management Initiative at Chinese Camp Hostel

This project is primarily focused on waste management. Observing poor waste disposal in our nearby community, Chinese Camp Hostel, we decided to take the initiative to make a difference, especially on days when hired cleaners were not available. The target audience is fellow students residing in the hostel. The project accomplished better waste management practices on campus, improved the sanitation and health of the hostel, and filled the gap when cleaners were unavailable. The initiative also promoted the spirit of maintaining a clean environment through the actions of the project.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ahmad Nkhoma is a hardworking and determined engineering student at the University of Science and Technology, born and raised in Malawi. He has always valued giving back to the community, a value shaped by his early education at a primary school built by community members.
In high school, Ahmad worked with fellow students to fundraise essential items such as soap, clothes, and sugar, which they donated to a nearby orphanage. In his first year at university, he joined the MUST Leo Club, where he helps organize philanthropic projects to support hospitals and communities in need. He also works closely with the Malawi Blood Transfusion Services to coordinate blood donation drives, donating himself and encouraging other students on campus to do the same.
Through this fellowship, Ahmad is committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and making a meaningful impact in his community.
