Millennium Fellowship Project: Shahoshi Stitches

Every Bangladeshi household has old clothes, sarees, bedsheets, kanthas tucked away in a cupboard, forgotten. Instead of letting them gather dust or turn into dirty old dishrags, Shahoshi Stitches hopes to give them a new light. The project will train marginalized women to upcycle second-hand fabric into beautiful handmade products like bags, laptop cases, cushion covers, lamp shades, placemats, potholders and oven mitts. By offering both luxury and essential items, such as potholders, a necessary item in every Bengali household, Shahoshi Stitches ensures a sustainable business model with a strong demand. These products will be sold at local fairs, exhibitions, and online, creating a sustainable way of consumption for consumers and a source of income for the women involved. But the impact doesn't just stop there. Every purchase will directly support breast cancer patients. The funds raised will be donated to our partner organization TishCAN Foundation, ensuring that women battling this disease receive the treatment, care and support they need. This project isn't just about fashion and sustainability. It provides financial independence to marginalized women, reduces textile waste, and supports a cause that saves lives. Through Shahoshi Stitches, second-hand fabric becomes a tool for first-hand change.
