" I am determined to create pathways for others to succeed. I have been fortunate enough to have had great mentors and opportunities, yet I still fell short at some hurdles because I simply didn't have the guidance. I am looking forward to becoming a Millennium Fellow to help empower every individual to overcome obstacles and unlock their true potential, using technology and innovation as tools for lasting social change. I want to be the person who encourages and uplifts others in their pursuit of shaping the person they want to become. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Ruwad Pathway

The “Ruwad Pathway” programme empowers bright but under-resourced final year high school students across the UAE to navigate university applications at home and overseas. By pairing each pupil with a current undergraduate mentor, we could offer genuine, week-by-week guidance on everything from drafting personal statements and practising interviews to identifying scholarships and completing financial-aid forms. Over a six-month semester, mentors and mentees meet-either face-to-face or online-to build confidence, demystify admissions processes and set clear milestones.

About the Millennium Fellow

Sumeed Saleem is a trailblazing mechanical engineering and interactive media student, passionate about leveraging technology and the newest innovations for social good. He was born in Pakistan, but raised in Britain and is currently a student attending New York University Abu Dhabi. Sumeed has always been an advocate for social mobility and helping people to find and achieve their true potentials, whether it be through access to higher education, supporting social development projects, or just being there for his community. He's looking forward to use the Millennium Fellowship to help fight inequality and ensure everyone can access the right to become the best version of themselves.
