" Change begins in the minds of the young, where potential sleeps- until stirred by purpose; passion then becomes a flame, turning conviction into a world shaping momentum. The Millennium Fellowship offers a platform to share not only fresh ideas, but a collective hope for the future that connects the youth. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sera: The Pink Initiative

Sera is an initiative that aims to address the lapses that the current healthcare system has with regard to menstrual and female reproductive health. It potentially tackles taboos that surround menstruation in Indian society. We intend to carry out donation drives, and partner with local NGOs to spread awareness about female hygiene, and help underprivileged women and children. Our program also deals with environmental concerns and responsible consumerism by promoting alternative sustainable menstrual products, and proper waste disposal. A single disposable pad takes 500- 800 years to decompose, and there are roughly 355 million menstruating women in India. We plan on focusing on the importance of making necessary products accessible through home grown brands. We aspire to bring infrastructural changes in universities and schools, by encouraging installment of pad dispensing machines in washrooms. Seminars educating the masses about diseases that arise due to lack of menstrual hygiene and how they can be avoided will be conducted throughout. Our project isn’t limited to women alone. It also recognizes the need to educate other genders about female reproductive health and how it impacts all members of the community. We aim to safeguard the lives of the life givers of our society.
