Millennium Fellowship Project: Kalavriti
I’m working on a Kalavriti project, which is about helping traditional Indian artisans and their crafts. A lot of these crafts are disappearing because artisans don’t have the resources or market connections they need to survive. The idea is to support them by providing access to better tools and materials and helping them sell their work to a larger audience. It’s not just about keeping these crafts alive, it’s also about making sure the process is fair for the artisans. Many don’t get paid enough for their work, and I want to change that by creating a system where they earn what they deserve. The project also focuses on making the craft process less harmful to the environment. So in simple terms, Kalavriti is about preserving traditional crafts, helping artisans earn a better living, and doing all this in a way that’s sustainable.
