" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me a platform to amplify the voices of girls who are often silenced. Through my project, Her Body, Her Right, Her Voice, I strive to equip the girl child with knowledge, confidence, and dignity, ensuring she knows her worth and can boldly claim her rights. I do this work because I have seen the power of knowledge, advocacy, and community in transforming lives. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project BRAVE

BRAVE – Her Body, Her Right And Her Voice Empowerment is a community-centered initiative led by Millennium Fellow Chidimma Okeke, focused on empowering and protecting girls aged 4–16. The project tackles pressing issues such as abuse, identity crises, and limited self-awareness—factors that increase vulnerability among young girls. Through school and community-based workshops, safe spaces, confidence-building activities, and collaboration with schools, BRAVE equips girls with the knowledge, courage, and support they need to understand their worth, speak up, and defend their rights.
The initiative was implemented on October 11, 2025, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, during the Millennium Fellowship period (August–December 2025). Through Project BRAVE, we initially targeted over 500 girls, but we successfully reached and empowered more than 2,000 . The project created a significant ripple effect of awareness, confidence, and sustained empowerment within the participating schools and the wider community.
