Millennium Fellowship Project: Oral health Awareness

Oral health is an essential component of general health, yet it remains one of the most neglected areas, especially in low- and middle-income communities. Poor oral hygiene practices, limited access to dental care, lack of awareness about preventive measures, and misinformation contribute to high rates of dental caries, periodontal disease, halitosis, and tooth loss.
In many communities, children and adults do not receive adequate information about proper brushing techniques, dietary habits, or the importance of routine dental check-ups. These preventable oral diseases affect school attendance, productivity, self-esteem, nutrition, and overall quality of life.

• Improved brushing habits and reduced harmful practices (e.g., sugary snacks, bottle-feeding at night).
• Greater community participation in preventive oral healthcare.
• Early detection and management of dental problems.
