Millennium Fellowship Project: The Revive Project
First of all, my project focuses on equipping students with basic first aid and CPR skills. As a certified basic first aider of the Nigerian Red Cross, I have the necessary skills and experience required for emergency response and as a medical student, I'd say it's quite sad that first aid and basic life support are neglected in our curriculum because out there, there are so many lives that's would i've been saved if the onlookers knew how to at least arrest bleeding or administer CPR. Therefore my colleague and I have identified this as a problem and how do we plan to tackle it? Our first project is the establishment of a Nigeria Red Cross unit in our campus (Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi). With this, we'd attract trainers from the State Red cross detachment who'd train the intending Red crossers on Basic first aid. After this, we'd form a larger team of trained first aiders, meanwhile my colleague and I will apply for further first aid training. Having achieved this goal, our next project(s) shall involve the organization of secondary school and intra-campus outreaches in which we will educate young people on first aid and emergency response.
