" " I believe that to address global healthcare accessibility, we must tackle the root. What is at the crux of these issues? From my research so far, I found that basic human needs need to be met before individuals will want to address issues about their health, such as access to food or housing stability. There is so much potential to address the root issues that will, in turn, also address some of the broader healthcare challenges we continue to see impacting communities at the margins. With the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to explore these root issues at a deeper level, engaging with scholars, communities, and perspectives from a global level. " "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Combating Healthcare Misinformation in the Digital Age

This project addresses the growing spread of healthcare misinformation across digital platforms and its impact on public health decision-making. With social media, messaging apps, and online forums increasingly shaping how people access medical information, inaccurate or misleading content has become a significant barrier to health literacy, trust in healthcare systems, and effective disease prevention.
The initiative aims to promote accurate, accessible, and evidence-based health information by identifying common sources of misinformation and equipping communities with tools to critically evaluate digital health content. Through workshops, digital campaigns, and collaborations with healthcare professionals, the project focuses on translating complex medical knowledge into clear, culturally relevant messaging.
Key activities include hosting educational sessions on identifying misinformation, creating short-form digital content that debunks common health myths, and partnering with local clinics, universities, and community organizations to amplify credible sources. By centering digital literacy and community engagement, the project seeks to empower individuals to make informed health decisions and reduce the harmful consequences of misinformation, particularly among youth and underserved populations.
Ultimately, this initiative contributes to stronger public trust in healthcare, improved health outcomes, and a more informed digital public sphere where accurate information can compete effectively with misinformation.

About the Millennium Fellow

As someone who has spent the majority of his undergrad living in Philly and NYC, through his project, Bill helps to understand how the HIV epidemic continues to disproportionately impact communities living at the margins, especially in urban contexts. After he graduates, Bill plans to go to law school and work in global healthcare policy.
