Millennium Fellowship Project: The Healing Garden
Proposed issue Globally, 1 in 8 people live with mental health conditions, 1 in 4 will experience them in their lifetime (WHO). In Rwanda, youth with mental health conditions range from 10.2% to 20% (RMHS), yet many suffer untreated due to low awareness, stigma, and lack of access. Visiting psychiatrists is uncommon, there is no clear guidance for those in need. Purpose: To promote awareness and leverage psychiatrists to provide a virtual mental health services to a vast number of victims via website. The project will: 1)Offer therapeutic videos and feedback forms to orient individuals to relevant programs. 2)Group users by condition severity for live sessions with professionals. 3)Refer severe cases to health centers. 4)Provide post-healing support to prevent relapse. Website structure 1)Entrance sheet for categorization. 2)Therapeutic videos unlock over time interval. 3)Feedback forms after each session. 4)Recap list for task reminders. 5)Live session notifications. 6)Post-healing interaction space. Launch and partnership In partnership with ministry of health and Psychiatrists associations, we will be able to fill in platform therapeutic programs. In the name of Ministry of health and with help of students’ associations we will be able to achieve advocacy.
About the Millennium Fellow
HABINEZA Jean Pierre is a bright, young medical student in Dental Surgery faculty at University of Rwanda. He was born in Byimana sector, a small town in Southern province of Rwanda. Pierre is a promising individual driven by powerful intellectual curiosity. He is passionate about using the gained science skills and knowledge into action to change and contribute to the well being of the community. He is a person with strong active listening character. In secondary school he has proven his empathy and leadership skills, while he was on position of catholic coordinator. Pierre is an individual who like to study and knows to collaborate with others and can provide his own contribution in the development of the United Nation's Sustainable Goals.
