" The world has more than enough suffering, and so many times we feel defeated as youth, so eager yet so small. The Millennium Fellowship is an opportunity to be a part of a supportive community, local and international, of people willing to go out of their way for the greater good, youth and all. It is wonderful fuel towards change, as well as an anchor to human goodness. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: One for All
One for All is a project aimed at pioneering Zimbabwe’s path toward organ transplantation by conducting the country’s first survey on attitudes toward organ donation. The findings will help evaluate how Zimbabweans feel about introducing an organ donor registry. With thousands of people in Zimbabwe experiencing organ failure, most of whom are undocumented, this project places people’s voices at the center of healthcare policy development. Activities carried out include a literature review on organ transplantation in Africa, beta testing the survey with healthcare professionals, and conducting an online pilot survey with a small group of college students.
About the Millennium Fellow
Makanaka Maokomatanda is a biomedical science student at the University of Zimbabwe. She's a proud Zimbabwean with a broad definition of community and servitude, owing to her identity as a utilitarian. As a lifelong learner, some of her interests include reading, writing, researching, and painting. Her desire for change is led by her belief in the human imperative to leave the world better than one finds it. Her guiding tenet is perfectly encapsulated by this quote from Saint Teresa of Calcutta: "If there is no peace in the world, it is because we have forgotten we belong to each other."
