" I believe human rights education is essential for shaping future leaders who not only understand diverse perspectives but also value dignity, equity, and justice as cornerstones of progress. The Millennium Fellowship represents an opportunity to strengthen these values within myself and to help build communities that prioritize humanity above all else. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Beyond The Lunch Line

Beyond the Lunch Line is a research-driven initiative examining how child nutrition programs in the United States and in select developing countries address food insecurity, with a focus on equity, governance, and long-term policy design. The project evaluates federal programs such as the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program while assessing how delayed reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act affects participation, funding stability, and nutritional outcomes. It combines a data-focused literature review, analysis of government and nonprofit datasets, and qualitative insights from Nashville community stakeholders to identify gaps in access and implementation. By comparing U.S. programs with international models in countries like India and Brazil where school meals are tied to constitutional rights to food, the project aims to highlight policies that enable stronger accountability and more durable nutrition systems. The ultimate goal is to translate research into actionable recommendations for policymakers, advocates, and community organizations working toward Sustainable Development Goal 2 on ending hunger.
