" Passion for improving healthcare access and quality drives my work. As a Millennium Fellow, I am excited to collaborate with like-minded peers, refine my leadership skills, and develop impactful solutions that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This opportunity will empower me to merge my clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge with innovation, creating sustainable health interventions for communities in need. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Health Echoes
Health Echoes is a youth-led community initiative in Uganda that addresses both communicable diseases (malaria, HIV, TB) and non-communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes, mental health). The project combines peer-led health education, mobile screening days, and digital messaging (SMS + in-person clubs) to improve awareness, early detection, and access to care. By bridging gaps in health literacy, integrating mental health into primary care, and generating data for advocacy, Health Echoes aims to create a scalable, sustainable model for healthier communities locally and regionally.
Measurable Goals (August–December 2025):
Community Reach: Educate 1,000 community members on disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and mental health awareness.
Peer Educators: Train 20 youth volunteers to lead health clubs and conduct community outreach.
Screenings & Referrals: Conduct 300+ screenings for BP, blood sugar, HIV, malaria, and mental health, with follow-up referrals.
Digital Engagement: Launch an SMS health tips platform reaching 300 subscribers, reinforcing preventive behaviours and clinic referrals.
Data & Advocacy: Produce 6 monthly community health briefs tracking referrals, stockouts, and health outcomes; share findings with district health offices.
About the Millennium Fellow
I am Egita Nevil, a second-year Bachelor of Pharmacy student at Victoria University, Uganda. I hold a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, which has given me a strong foundation in patient care, diagnostics, and community health promotion. Building on my clinical experience, I am expanding my knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences to bridge the gap between medicine and pharmacy. I am passionate about healthcare innovation and aspire to integrate technology into medical practice, advance public health initiatives, and contribute to solutions that improve access, quality, and sustainability in healthcare.
