" Millennium Fellowship Project: Beyond the Binary On campus and within my own friend circle, I have noticed people make casual stereotypical remarks and brush them off as a joke when they are confronted about it. Many even make homophobic- and queer-phobic remarks. This is but one of the reasons why transgender people may not feel like my campus is a safe space for them. Through this project, I want to assess the various reasons which lead to the underrepresentation of transgender students in schools and in my own campus as well, and bring such reasons to light in order to hopefully make my campus a safe space. I strongly believe that SDG 5 must look beyond the gender binary. Hence, I will base my project on spreading awareness, as one of the best ways to combat stigma is through education. I will conduct interviews with noted transgender people who are successful in their respective fields today, as well as with faculty members of schools in Bhubaneswar and of XIM University to hear their opinions on the matter. My assessment will be compiled in the form of a report, which I hope to use in the future to promote change in existing systems and make schools and universities a place where transgender students can study without having to face stigma and discrimination. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Nubians for Tomorrow Nubians-Egyptians used to live near the Nile River and were farmers. However, in the 1960s, the Egyptian government displaced over 50,000 Nubians from their homes to build the Aswan Dam. Finding themselves jobless, many Nubian men moved to Cairo or abroad to find jobs, while their wives stayed to raise their children. The lack of a present father figure in Nubian childrens’ lives has caused many teenagers to use drugs. While this is a big problem in the community, it is not being addressed by the government since Nubians are a minority group. Through my project, I researched the types of drugs most commonly used in the community. Then, I created flyers and presentations that explained the health risks of utilizing those drugs. Next, through my connections, I contacted middle schools in one Nubian village to share my materials with their students. While my content didn't prevent people who are already utilizing drugs to stop utilizing them, it helped prevent young teenagers from using drugs in the first place. The material of this event will centralize around teaching students how to identify and spot the warning signs of unhealthy relationship patterns, in an effort to create a campus culture that values peaceful relationship institutions, and is aware of the justice institutions available for those who need help. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Smile Redefined Smile Redefined aims to reduce poverty as our GOAL, for that we have decided to develop a platform, like a website, for donations. It will be like a window open to all those who want to donate and help the needy people. There will be categories under which one can donate books, clothes, furniture, food , money etc . These donations (like furniture, electronic gadgets) can also be converted into money value to provide better living for the poor. We could also take in daily donations such as fresh left over food from restaurants or functions to solve the hunger crisis. Also in our platform we'll conduct surveys regarding the basic need of the poor people that needs to be satisfied and provide them with whatever we can with the donations we have. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Project : "CUT" Our project name is "CUT." Cut, the title sounds quite confusing. Let me explain the meaning behind the project name we arranged for such a wonderful opportunity. Since, our project dwells around the area of menstrual health, specifically focusing on the psychological aspect of menstruation restriction put by our Nepalese Society, the name "Cut" immediately clicked. "Cut" means all those cuts, and wounds our sisters, daughters, and mothers had to go through because of the restrictions they were put under. Meanwhile, "CUT implies it is high time now that we women along with the help of men should cut these chains of restrictions to introduce a breakthrough in the menstrual world. Therefore, the project "CUT empowers everyone to participate in helping the liberation of women from imposed menstrual restrictions.
