INQUIRIES FROM ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS If you are a University President/Vice-Chancellor/administrator/staff/faculty member and want to learn more about the Millennium Fellowship, please visit the University Page. UNIVERSITY PAGE Frequently Asked Questions Eligibility & Selection Criteria Millennium Fellowship Applicants Campus Director Applicants Questions on Fees and Resources Background on the Program and Organizations Getting in Touch Who is eligible to apply for this program? You must be at least 18 years old, an undergraduate enrolled in a college or university, and in good standing at that academic institution for the duration of the program. You make a commitment to convene in-person least eight times during the Millennium Fellowship (for the Class of 2026 the program will run August 2026 - December 2026) with your Campus Directors and other Fellows on your campus to share best practices and take collective action. Students have to meet on-campus, in-person for the Fellowship sessions. If you miss sessions, this is grounds for expulsion and the forfeiture of your designation as a Millennium Fellow. Campus Directors have additional responsibilities as noted in FAQs section on "Campus Director Applicants." Note: We aim to accept at least eight Millennium Fellows from each Campus Hub (with two Campus Directors). Most Campus Hubs will typically have 8-20 Millennium Fellows. The Fellowship is about forming community; therefore we encourage you to share the program with other prospective Fellows on your campus and encourage them to apply as well. What are we looking for in selecting Millennium Fellows? The Honorable Ban Ki-moon powerfully shares what makes an outstanding Millennium Fellow: "As Millennium Fellows, we need you to lead by example - with empathy, humility, and inclusion as guiding values. You can embrace global citizenship, building a strong global network to learn from and support each other. And your commitment to collaborative action can help make the SDGs and UNAI principles reality on your campuses and in your communities." In addition to these guiding values and traits of individuals, we are looking for cohorts and campuses that will champion this program. What does that mean in practice: Frequency: Campus Directors and Millennium Fellows are deeply invested in building capacity through community-building - meeting and engaging with each other as often as possible during the Millennium Fellowship - wanting to fully leverage the curriculum and community. Buy-in : Ideally, everyone all the way up to the University President/Vice-Chancellor gets behind Millennium Fellows, supporting their vision, projects, and collective action. If Fellows’ Projects or collective actions take place beyond the campus, community members are actively involved in leading and shaping them. Impact: Millennium Fellows successfully run their own projects (meeting intended outcomes) and where relevant find success in a collective action (for example, working with administration to update a campus sustainability plan, or hosting a campus-wide summit on gender inclusion). Campus Directors and Millennium Fellows share stories of impact advancing the SDGs and UNAI principles with MCN and UNAI. Continuity: Campus Directors and Millennium Fellows continue to meet regularly beyond the Millennium Fellowship in spring 2027 (and beyond) - committed to building out a robust campus hub. Fellows re-apply for the following year and/or nominate at least one other student to apply. I am a graduate student, can I still apply to the Millennium Fellowship?" The Millennium Fellowship program is open for undergraduate students only. Graduate students (i.e. student pursuing a Masters, PhD degree) are not eligible. I am an undergraduate student, but I will be graduating in 2026, can I still apply?" To be eligible for the Millennium Fellowship program, you must be an undergraduate student for the entire duration of the program (Aug 1, 2026 - November 30, 2026). Students who graduated (received their certificate) or expect to graduate before November 30, 2026, are not eligible for the program. When are references due? Your reference must submit the recommendation form by May 31st, 2026.

The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program that happens on your campus. The United Nations Academic Impact and MCN ... The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership development program that happens on your campus. The United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are here to elevate your leadership. CONVENE As part of a cohort of 8-20+ Millennium Fellows on your campus, convene to learn from and challenge each other. Millennium Fellows convene at least 8 times during the program. CHALLENGE Develop a plan of action for your sessions together. Meet to exchange best practices. And you could think bigger: organizing a campus-wide sustainability initiative or more. CELEBRATE When your Fellowship Campus meets the goals you made for yourselves and completed the Fellowship graduation requirements, you will earn a certificate of recognition from United Nations Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network. How the Program Works Step 1: Apply (as soon as you can) to become a Millennium Fellow. Note that each selected campus hub will typically have 8-20 Millennium Fellows (meaning you are strongly encouraged to invite your colleagues and classmates on your campus to apply as well). When you apply, you are asked to submit your Millennium Fellowship Project. Whatever your Project is, it must be time-bound - something you can make meaningful, measurable impact on during the Millennium Fellowship (August-December) and it must advance at least one Sustainable Development Goal and one UNAI principle. For some examples, it could be (but is not limited to): leading your campus organization (for example, a chapter of AIESEC, ENACTUS, UNICEF) that advances UN goals. student journalism - writing a series on the Sustainable Development Goals for your campus newspaper. running a social enterprise. innovative research that concretely advances UN goals. proposing a collective action as a Project - a campus-wide and/or community-wide initiative that advances UN goals. For inspiration, learn about Middlebury College's successful campus-wide action to become carbon neutral by 2016 (advancing SDG 13). If you want to curate the Millennium Fellowship on your campus, in your fellowship application you can also apply to be one of two campus directors for your campus. Applications to the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2026 are now open. Interested applicants can head on to the apply page to submit their 2026 applications. The next priority deadline is Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Step 2: Convene, Challenge, and Celebrate. In Fellowship sessions (a minimum of 8 convenings between August and November), Millennium Fellows convene on their respective campuses. During these sessions, Campus Directors will lead you through the MCN Action Toolkit - an adaptive curriculum to help you reflect on core values, hone skills, and take informed action for UN goals. The curriculum is experiential - it is meant to be applied to help you grow as a leader in real-time as you manage your Project. As a campus hub, you will get exposed to a variety of elements during the Fellowship sessions as part of the the MCN Action Toolkit: cultivating core values (empathy, humility, inclusion). honing hard skills (how to write a budget, create SMART goals). honing soft skills (team management, pitching your Project). peer to peer feedback - sharing best practices to help each other overcome obstacles to your Project and exploring further opportunities for collaboration. You will take on the challenge - engaging in peer to peer feedback to support Projects of your peers as you lead your own. As a campus hub, you may also choose to take on a collective action - for example, working with your administration to update a campus sustainability plan. If you have been an active Millennium Fellow and completed your Project, we will celebrate your work: you will earn a certificate recognizing successful completion of your Millennium Fellowship Project from United Nations Academic Impact and MCN. All of us at United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are also looking forward to hearing and sharing your stories of impact advancing the SDGs and UNAI principles in your communities - be sure to reflect and share videos/photos/articles of what you have learned and accomplished through this program. Step 3: Join Our Alumni Community. Join over 11,000+ MCN alumni to date and build a career with social impact. See here for some examples of what alumni have gone on to do. The best alumni stay involved: Continuing to share the long-term impact of this program on your work and career trajectory to inspire leaders younger than you to join. Building a robust campus hub to ensure future Millennium Fellows can participate, recruiting other students to become Millennium Fellows, and returning as guest speakers and mentors for future classes. UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM, JOIN THE MCN ALUMNI COMMUNITY AND CONTINUE TO HAVE SOCIAL IMPACT. 11,000 + Alumni from over 300 universities in 50+ countries 87% 87% of Fellowship Alumni currently employed report now working in social impact careers Meet the Community Through the Millennium Fellowship, I got the chance to work with likeminded individuals who are passionate about changing the world, one person at a time, and that really was a great experience for me. Our primary mission is to create awareness about mental health and provide practical guidance to young individuals between the ages of 10 and above. In a community where the importance of mental health is often overlooked, we believe that knowledge is the first step toward preventing and mitigating mental health disorders. As the saying goes, 'a stitch in time saves nine,' and early education about mental health can significantly contribute to better overall well-being. Throughout the duration of the fellowship, My Mental Health Campaign will host a series of impactful activities. These include 1)online webinars featuring professional mental health practitioners as speakers 2)Engagement with two local schools in Irrua 3) Dissemination of online awareness materials such as infographics and short video clips. Additionally, we will provide educational resources such as bulletins and booklets to help students and teachers better understand the purpose and significance of our project. Our mission doesn't stop at awareness; we are committed to equipping community members with the tools to identify and assist youths who may be developing mental health problems or experiencing crises. Collaboration with mental health practitioners at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital is pivotal in connecting affected individuals to the care they need. Our goal is to reach and positively impact between 500 to 1,000 people through these combined online and in-person efforts, thereby reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use problems while fostering a more informed, supportive, and engaged community. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University | Lucknow, India | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3 " A law student is known for many qualities but they are accused of having low creativity. People of this profession are accused of not being able to make something new. Through this Fellowship program I would want to showcase the world that it is not true. This program demands creativity and quality. By achieving my goal I would like to break the stereotype towards this noble profession of law. " Millennium Fellowship Project: SHIKSHANAM There is an indisputable disparity in society's resources, which manifests itself in many ways including access to education and inherent privileges. The dropout rates of students throughout the country across classes remain at an extreme high. As per the data released by Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) in 2020-21, the enrollment of students at the pre-primary level and class 1 has gone down by 29.1 lakh and 18.8 lakh respectively in 2020-21 from 2019-20. The report shows that the overall dropout rate in 2020-21 at the secondary level is 14.6 percent, down from 16.1 percent in 2019-20. At the primary level, the dropout rate in 2020-21 is 0.8 percent, down from 1.5 percent in 2019-20. Further, as the national effort's lack of adequate funds, physical infrastructure, and quality teachers, India spends only a little over 3% of its GDP on education against the benchmark of 6% that every national education policy has set since 1968, which is another hindrance in imparting of quality education to children in India. With the lack of sufficient national resources being invested in promoting quality education in our country and administrative failure in terms of efficient implementation of policies and plans, it is understood that this will not allow students, who are a product of this system to act as diligent citizens in a civil society. For a person to survive in today’s society, a comprehensive approach integrated with a well thought strategy is required to amalgamate fundamental educational features and skill education. Though the State Council of Educational Research and Training have initiated ‘Bridge Courses’ to impart vocational training, they have yielded no real result. On discovering such statistics, the two key subthemes that were primarily incorporated in our project were imparting quality education and equipping children with technical skills. During our research on this project, we identified gaps in the way the resources like time, money, and energy were being invested to teach the less-privileged kids but no tangible benefit output was being derived. With the curriculum designed by our team, we intend to provide a cohort of 150 underprivileged students with basic education and also prepare them for admission tests for admission into schools. We intend not to just teach them academics but also familiarize them with the social constructs (making them aware of basic life skills, method of legal redressal, gender roles, reproductive education, fundamental rights, etc.) and give them basic knowledge about how to use laptops/computers, how to use search engines like Google, and subsequently make them ready to step into civil society. The curriculum has been designed in such a manner that it’ll help these children become proficient in functioning with full ability in a civil society. This project’s end goal is to collaborate with the District Inspector of School, get their support, and get the students admitted into the various schools via the Right to Education Act, 2009, allowing children who weren’t able to gain education due to social or economic restraints to once again be a part of the formal education system.
