  • Global Impact | Millennium Fellowship

    Our Global Impact MCN launched the Millennium Fellowship in 2013 to convene, challenge, and celebrate student leadership for social impact. Beginning in 2018, MCN and United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) partnered to present the Millennium Fellowship, creating a robust global network of undergraduate leaders advancing UN goals. Student leaders worldwide were invited to join an extraordinary community of young leaders advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in their respective communities. In 2025, 297 campuses worldwide (just 4%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows. Millennium Fellows' Projects have positively impacted the lives of over 1 million people worldwide in 2025. To support the intended impact, the Millennium Fellowship provides student leaders with the training, connections, and recognition. Impact Report Class of 2025 Throughout the Millennium Fellowship program, Millennium Fellows undertake a project that addresses one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), applying what they learn in real-time to create tangible social impact. Aimed at advancing your leadership skills, the Millennium Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to engage with a global network of peers dedicated to making a significant social impact. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Differently Enabled The Millennium Fellows of the University of Eldoret (UoE) from Eldoret, Kenya, worked on a group project called ‘Differently Enabled’ that focused on mentoring learners living with disabilities, PWDs, to pursue S.T.E.M. related courses and career paths by creating awareness to the community to eradicate the stigma and stereotype towards them. To implement this, the cohort visited the Eldoret School for the hearing-impaired where the cohort mentored the Junior Secondary students and engaged them in co-curricular activities. The mentorship program focused on the branches of S.T.E.M. - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Each of the fellows focused on one of the topics and gave their motivation, explained why we need S.T.E.M., their inspirations, and how the students themselves can make an impact by pursuing S.T.E.M. courses, so as to eliminate the idea of limitation towards them. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I am excited to collaborate with a global community to amplify my efforts in gender economics, public health, and sustainability, ensuring that my contributions align with the SDGs and create equitable, lasting change " Millennium Fellowship Project: Economic Empowerment of Migrant Women Vendors This project focuses on understanding the socio-economic conditions of migrant female street vendors, a vital yet often marginalized group within the informal urban economy. Street vending plays a key role in making affordable goods and services accessible to the local population while providing livelihoods to those from vulnerable backgrounds. Migrant women vendors, in particular, contribute significantly to the city’s economy while sustaining their families through their income despite facing multiple layers of disadvantage. As part of the project, a survey was conducted among 90 respondents from Hulimavu, Chickpete, and Jayanagar markets in Bangalore to explore their workplace realities, challenges, and aspirations. The findings highlight issues such as poor infrastructural facilities, limited policy awareness, and health and safety concerns that affect their stability and dignity at work. Through direct interaction and observation, the project aims to shed light on their daily struggles and advocate for institutional and policy support to make their livelihoods safer and more sustainable. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Fight Against Hypertension The Fight Against Hypertension is a project that aims at promoting the awareness of hypertension (HTN) to students at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and by extension, to their love ones. Hypertension is a threat to the health of people, and it kills silently. There is an axiom that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Therefore, the project is one of preventive measures towards HTN and an extension to other cardiovascular diseases like stroke and heart failure. The project would promote quality health through the following activities: i. Creating awareness of chronic diseases, in particular hypertension(HTN). ii. In light of the fact that HTN is not only a disease of the elderly but can also affect the young, a healthy living tomorrow begins with living right and consciously today. iii. Educating people on how to go about the prevention and also better management of the disease for those already suffering from it is key. iv. As a student of physiotherapy, I have always been facilitated by neuro-physiology and public health; the answers they posit to most of the world’s biggest ailments. With a lot of unanswered questions and grey areas in sciences, I hope to specialize in neuro-rehabilitation/neurology and in public health and further delve in research to find answers to questions and grey areas that science has not uncovered.
