We will also work towards normalizing conversations surrounding mental health and conduct campus-wide data collection drives to cater to the specific needs of students. More importantly, we shall engage in a conversation with campus administration and other stakeholders to introduce a formal mental health infrastructure as part of the healthcare facilities available to students on campus, both in terms of counselling as well as medical attention. The youth who abuse drugs aren't aware of the dangers that hard drugs cause and as bad as the drug peddling business is, I want to have a soft take towards them, these are youth trying to make money, easy money to be precise because these youth lack opportunities and not to generalize but most of them drop out from schools. I want to target the youth with my project, to promote quality education for the youth, and to show them new pathways towards success and liberation towards their potential. As a result, the majority of young people are jobless, ostracized, and subject to police harassment in addition to being denied access to essential services like healthcare and education. Therefore, this project aims to provide a platform for youth-to-youth sector-specific quality education sharing in order to be able to take advantage of opportunities to improve our overall well-being as youngsters. Their inability to access menstrual hygiene products and the stigma attached to menstruation eventually results in girls dropping out of school. Through my social impact project, I plan to encourage open conversations on this very natural bodily function and break the stigma attached to it. Akingbola Oluwafikayomi is 4th year medical student of Afe Babalola University. She is the first child of 2 in a family of 4. She was born on the 8th of November , 2001 at Toki hospital, Lagos Nigeria. Primary school education was at Greesnsprings school Anthony. Graduated from Chrisland high school ikeja in 2018. She was the Assembly prefect in high school, she was also a member of the school band. From a very young age she always knew she wanted to become a doctor. Fikayo didn’t know what it took at that time, but her wish has always been to save lives. Currently in medical school although very tasking she is happy and satisfied with her choice. Miss Akingbola is the former senator of AMSA and COMHSSA community in school, she has also attended a few conferences. hobbies : going out with friends, exploring and listening to music. This project is aimed at educating the population on the importance of keeping their surrounding clean, proper emptying of their wastes, discouraging littering, clearing out the bushes around their homes, cleaning their gutters and more. They would also be educated on how to properly dispose their wastes. This would improve the quality of living of the people, discourage environmental pollution and also prevent common diseases in the society like typhoid, dysentery and malaria which is the one of the main focus of this project. Malaria is one of the major killers especially in children under the age of 5 years and pregnant women and with proper prevention, the incidence can be reduced. Some people do not know that ensuring appropriate sanitation would play a role in reducing the incidence of diseases and would reduce mortality which would also benefit the world at large. That is why this project is being carried out to prevent such diseases. The project would stress out the importance of good hygiene and sanitation and the steps would involve: - Visit to rural areas to educate and create awareness on the importance of sanitation. - Making of fliers and posters to further educate the community. - Creating awareness on other social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp and more. - Provision of this rural areas with waste bins, brooms, dust pans, mopping sticks, buckets and other sanitation equipments and insecticide treated nets and insecticides to further prevent diseases like malaria. These experiences led him to wonder why these things occur and how to fix them, eventually leading him to study psychology. He now studies diligently in hope of helping his community in the future. Improving Through Positive Psychology aims to better inform university students (primarily of the University of Puerto Rico) about positive psychology and its benefits. It involves providing seminars and resources for students to learn strategies about how to better deal with stress, take care of their mental health, study more efficiently, make better use of their time and view themselves and their strengths in a new light. Its goal is to provide anywhere from 2-5 seminars and reach at least 40-100 students in a single semester to teach them better ways to look after their mental health and wellbeing. " Millennium Fellowship Project: VINSIGHTE TECHNOLOGY Visual Impairment has been a limiting, depressing and overlooked problem in Africa with little help given in the region to help the victims enjoy a better quality of life. According to WHO’s 2010 global data report, 285 million people are visually impaired in the world and 26.2 million people suffer from visual impairment in Africa. Most of them are limited in their ability to read and move around their environment independently which has exposed them to even more hazards, limited their access to education and job opportunities, endangered their quality of life and wellbeing and brought on them undue stigmatization. Our aim at Vinsighte is to alleviate this problem. Vinsighte designed a hand-held guiding aid called Viri and a smart reading eye-glasses called Visis which aids the visually impaired to navigate a familiar environment independently and read books conveniently. Viri makes use of sonar technology to detect obstacles and obstructions in the path of the user and relays feedbacks via mild vibrations. Due to the great prospect our innovation has shown and the success we have achieved in development, the World Bank Group recently announced Vinsighte as one of the top 14 social impact ventures among 3100 ventures in the world. We are currently in the 2019/2020 Facebook Accelerator program, Nigeria where we have access to business and financial mentors as well as technical support and resources from Facebook and Co-creation hub to further develop our technology and structure our business for scale. Families are experiencing the devastating loss of loved ones due to hypertension, and previously healthy individuals are finding themselves paralyzed by strokes. Pregnant women are grappling with the critical issue of inadequate blood supply during childbirth. These distressing scenarios are unfolding right before us, and it is imperative that we take action. In a determined response to this widespread threat, a dedicated team of 26 individuals, of which I am proud to be one, has initiated "The Health Mission." This comprehensive project will encompass a blood donation drive, community blood pressure check-ups, and educational awareness campaigns focused on hypertension, stroke, and genotype compatibility. Our multifaceted approach, THE HEALTH MISSION, seeks to address these critical issues on multiple fronts. We aim to educate and sensitize community members, conduct medical outreaches within the community, and encourage regular checkups among people in the community in order to favor early diagnosis of stroke and high blood pressure. Through informative sessions and accessible materials, we will empower them with knowledge about their health, the importance of regular check-ups, and the early warning signs of health problems like stroke and hypertension. About the Millennium Fellow Shittu Kabeerat Ayomide, a third-year nursing student at University of Ilorin. Shittu is deeply passionate about volunteer work and promoting good health and well-being, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3. Sydney Nguyen Chen is an enthusiastic, creative, and curious pre-law student at Duke University where she is studying Global Health and Biology. Her hometown in Northern Virginia offers easy access to D.C. where she loves to visit museums and be at the pulse of American politics. Proximity to D.C. inspired Sydney to think of her place in the global community, sparking a passion for social issues and international affairs. Starting in high school, Sydney has united members of her school, local, and state to advocate for legislation to several social issues. More than a leader, Sydney values listening to the lived experiences of others to expand her world view. In college, she continued this passion for multiculturalism and uplifiting others through researched policy through multiple avenues during the school year and over the summer. Sydney hopes to nurture these budding convictions and apply them to the United Nations' Sustainable Goals: a journey that will no doubt launch her into becoming an informed citizen of the world.
