" Millennium Fellowship Project: THRIVE MENTALLY, LIVE FULLY At Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, I initiated a mental health awareness project after noticing many medical students silently battling stress, anxiety, burnout, and depression due to intense academic pressure, relationship issues and widespread stigma. Through interactive sessions, guest speakers (young doctors who openly shared their struggles), practical workshops on and burnout recognition, plus an anonymous feedback system and a confidential WhatsApp peer-support group, we reached over 100 students, gradually reduced stigma, built a strong support network, and empowered several to seek professional help for the first time. Despite challenges like initial low turnout, limited funds, and balancing my own studies, the growing participation and heartfelt testimonies including one student saying it “changed everything” by showing them it’s okay to ask for help proved the urgent need for such initiatives. Moving forward, I plan to expand this into a full Mental Health Awareness Week with mindfulness activities, and official campus partnerships to make mental well-being a permanent part of student life. " Millennium Fellowship Project: PANGELASSA REVIVAL My project aims at solving the problem of social exclusions in the communities. Based on living conditions of people in Rwanda, many are still under the line of poverty and there are other people who wish to help. However, they don't do so because there was no strategic way to do that. Recognizing this gap, we developed a system that will simplify donation process and enable communication between donating and receiving parties. It is a poly function system. It supports donation, management and communication processes. Depending on Rwandans level of understanding of what it means to help someone, we undoubtedly believe that many lives of people will be improved through this platform. Cuurently, more than a thousand people are impacted, and we hope to reach to more than 150 people through December. Our system is designed in a way that addresses every community meaning that it can be used globally where everyone can contribute to the improvement of human kind and yet every person will be positively impacted. Their approach involves converting plastic waste into high-quality, durable items that benefit society and promote sustainability. The primary goal is to create visually attractive, long-lasting furniture using eco-bricks, eco-tiles, and bioplastics. The team at Project Aarosh has already achieved notable success through their unique lease-cum-sale approach, which caters to a range of demographics such as cafes, middle-class households, and business owners. However, their aim is to broaden their market share and product offerings by developing a diverse range of items in various categories. Project Aarosh is committed to positively impacting both the environment and society. By providing employment opportunities to low-income communities and facilitating greater social mobility, they aim to promote sustainable consumption and production practices while simultaneously reducing plastic waste in landfills and oceans.
