I also hope to organize more events / free clinics in which anyone can get a basic workup (vitals, medicine review, etc.) to be up to date and aware of their medical profile. Lastly, I also aim to educate the youth as they are the most effective means in long-term impact on these issues. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Your Depression Hotline! Depression has been a bane in my student community. It has grossly affected the mental health of students, leading to a decline in academic performance and is negatively impacting the learning process for students as a whole. My project aims to curb the effects of depression - especially self harm, suicide and ills such as smoking, substance abuse and drinking associated with depression. This will further improve the learning process of students in the school environment by improving their mental health and promoting SDG 3 - Good health and well-being. My project, ‘Your Depression Hotline’ aims to accomplish this goal in various ways. An awareness campaign would be organized and the student community of my campus will be sensitized and enlightened on practical ways of dealing with depression that does not culminate in self harm. Students will be encouraged to share their depression stories with us and the student community. Some of these stories will be shared publicly and anonymously in the school paper, department magazines/social media handles and other forms of media as well. The aim is to create a kindred spirit among students going through depression; to help them realize that we might feel lonely but we are never alone in our depression stories. Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering | Chennai, India | Advancing SDG 17 & UNAI 9 | Emerging Technologist Millennium Fellowship Project: CampusCarpool - Empowering Safe and Sustainable Travel In today's fast-paced world, the need for efficient, safe, and cost-effective transportation is paramount. This is particularly true for students residing on the outskirts of Chennai, where commuting to the city center, Central Railway Station, or the airport can be both challenging and expensive. In response to these challenges, we've developed CampusCarpool, a simple and effective solution to make commuting safer, more economical, and environmentally friendly for students. In the midst of Chennai's bustling streets and vibrant culture, CampusCarpool aims to facilitate connections among students heading in the same direction. It's more than just a ride-sharing app; it's about making daily commutes a shared experience, reducing costs, and contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle. CampusCarpool is purposefully designed with the unique needs of our college community in mind. Recognizing the distinct challenges faced by students residing on the outskirts of Chennai, the app is crafted to cater specifically to their commuting requirements. The initial focus is on fostering a sense of intra-college collaboration, enabling students to connect with their peers who share similar travel destinations. The app's functionality is finely tuned to align with the academic calendar and common travel patterns of our student body. Whether it's heading to the railway station or airport during holidays or commuting to shared destinations for exams, conferences, hackathons, or concerts, CampusCarpool streamlines these specific needs. By tailoring the app to the immediate community, we aim to create a tightly knit network of users who can rely on each other for safe and cost-effective transportation. The app addresses the safety concerns associated with night travel by providing a secure platform for female students to coordinate rides with their peers. This targeted approach ensures that the benefits of CampusCarpool resonate most profoundly within our college community, creating a reliable and trusted network of students who can collectively enhance their travel experiences. As CampusCarpool establishes itself within our college, it lays the foundation for a more connected and supportive community, one that transcends academic pursuits and extends into the practicalities of daily life. By initially tailoring the app to the students of our college, we aim to build a strong foundation for future expansion and the integration of additional features that could benefit an even broader audience. Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur | Nagpur, India | Advancing SDG 12 & UNAI 9 | Emerging Technologist Millennium Fellowship Project: Zero Waste Institutions Zero-Waste Institutions project is a 3 Part plan. Part 1 - Taking up the mantle from our previous batch of Millennium Fellows, we are continuing the zero-waste action plan, wherein we conduct waste audits to create quantifiable data to develop a policy that ultimately leads to our university going altogether zero-waste. Our goals are to assist relevant institute authorities in implementing this policy and creating a sustainable business model using modern technologies. Part 2 - Generalising our zero-waste plan for similar institutes like schools and NGOs, where the waste generated is not vastly different from that of colleges like ours. This will be done on some platforms like our website. Part 3 - Promotion and awareness of the concept of Zero-Waste Communities via our generalised plan to other colleges/schools/institutes. Introducing them to the potential of addressing the unsustainable aspects of the current waste management system, and proposing technical interventions for going zero-waste as a gated community. UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT KIARA KAIZAD DRIVER, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2022. Ashoka University | Sonipat, India | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 3 " One conversation with someone whose life has been forever altered by the Covid 19 pandemic has been ingrained in my mind. The foundation of my project is based on this very conversation that pushed me to think about the ways in which information can be disseminated in this age of pseudoscience and misinformation. Being a Millennium Fellow gives me an opportunity to learn with my peers, working on a project that can only be realised by the collaborative effort of people who want to change the world with their incredible ideas. " Millennium Fellowship Project: The Covid Literacy Project This pandemic has brought on a wave of pseudoscience- information that falsely claims to be based on the scientific method. I want to target and dismantle this very institution of pseudoscience that exists in my university and the town of Asawarpur that is near my university. The first stage of my project would entail gathering information to assess the extent to which people, particularly the residents of the rural town and the housekeeping staff (who we respectfully call didis and bhaiyas) have misunderstood facts about the Covid-19 pandemic. Then I aim to find out the sources of this misinformation and compile all this data to figure out how this can be prevented. Finally, my last stage would entail me holding sessions where I talk to them about my findings, having dialogue with them on the sources of the misinformation that has threatened their good health over the past two years. I would also like to publish a manual detailing my findings generally on the nature of pseudoscience and specifically connecting it to this situation. UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT MUHAMMED LAZIM K K, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2019. TKM College of Engineering | Kollam, India | Advancing SDG 4 & UNAI 3 Millennium Fellowship Project: The School Intervention Programme Our project was a long term action focussing the High School students and children sheltered in various orphanages and other backward schools in the district of Kollam. The prime aim of the programme was to offer the under 18 students, an introduction to the new world of education providing them with special capacity building and career guidance training sessions which was organised and co-ordinated by us. We aimed to make the rising youth aware of the plethora of opportunities before them like scholarships, better educational ambience, removing their Anxiety through various skill empowering activities. We also helped them enhance their hidden traits and talents. we assisted the students to know and realise "How to Learn" rather than What to Learn. We helped to introduce a spark among the students, the necessity for being a socially-committed person. Our project was focused on SDG number four which was Quality Education. Education facilitates quality learning which would help us develop our skills and knowledge. The school intervention program was focused on teaching the students to learn rather than study. Our team members visited Inspire Study Centre situated in Punalur for implementing our project. We met very talented and unique students who have dreams but were unaware of the path towards achieving them. We split into groups and focused our attention on specific students. All of us spent time in getting to know them and understanding their thought process. It was not just a learning experience for them but for us as well. Creating a trustful bond between the students was an important task. After getting to know each and every one of them we were able to guide them in the right direction towards achieving their goals. For those who were unclear about their future, we were able to open their minds to the countless opportunities awaiting them.. All in all, rather than taking it up as a project, it was a really developing process for all those involved. The educational institutions that we visited for our project had many talented young minds with plenty of dreams. But these children had many obstacles that they had to overcome. Some of them had issues at home, some had financial issues and for some, they were an obstacle to themselves. Through this meeting, our main aim was to get to know these children- their strengths, weaknesses and every issue that could be solved by us. After talking to them, we understood that they were very ambitious for their age but most of them had issues, which could be solved if we just spent a few hours of our time with them. After this visit, we all made the collective decision that we would continue this project even after the fellowship and we will make sure that each of the children that we met that day will surely achieve all their dreams.
