Through this project, we aimed to equip laypersons with legal knowledge that is useful in daily life by assessing their specific needs in collaboration with local governmental bodies. Since 2016, the Nepalese government has given local bodies the power to settle disputes through mediation. The Local Judicial Committee, in particular, has this ability. For this project, we will be working with the Judicial Committee of Sunkoshi Village to assess the needs of residents, and design awareness and training sessions accordingly. The project primarily focused on two actors- the Judicial Committee and the residents. Firstly, since the local committees are constituted by elected representatives who are not necessarily legal experts, we conducted training and informative sessions about relevant legal matters. Secondly, we identified prevalent legal issues submitted for mediation with the committee's help, and designed awareness sessions for residents to nip the bud of legal disputes. We looked into issues of marriage and divorce, property, special needs, land encroachment, and domestic violence. We furthered legal accessibility in the region using a need-based approach through in-person awareness programs and disseminating legal information through brochures. The project's impact was measured by observing the difference between the Judicial Committee and the residents' approach to relevant legal issues before and after the project. The objective of the collaboration with local personnel is to provide continuity to the project even after the fellowship ends. Our idea is to establish a charity, called Fresh Start SMS, that provides hygiene kits to homeless families with children under 5, arranged via text messaging service. Our project would be working towards addressing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on health sanitation, health inequality, and poverty. We are in the early stages of conceptualising the project, and are currently developing a Proof-of-Concept report to determine its feasibility and acceptability before bringing our vision to fruition. Good hygiene practices can be a complex challenge for homeless individuals. This not only poses a risk to physical wellbeing, but can also affect mental health, lowering self-confidence and leaving individuals feeling left behind by society. Hygiene kits for homeless individuals can be a transformative solution. These kits comprise essential personal hygiene items, enabling individuals to engage in self-care and have a fresh start. Our project aims to remove the current physical and practical barriers to accessing hygiene care and improve the current distribution of donated hygiene products. The main differentiator of this service compared to current distributors is that all kits are personalised, therefore individuals receive only what they want and need. In addition, we envision a system where individuals can easily request their kit via an automated text messaging service, accessible on all phones. By implementing a system that generates a unique identifier code, we also aim to ensure that the process remains anonymous. This prevents others from knowing what they have requested, and removes the potential shame of requesting more ‘stigmatised’ products such as sanitary pads and condoms. Despite the perceived barrier of mobile phones being inaccessible to this population, we have found through primary and secondary research that most of the homeless population do own a phone, albeit not a smartphone but atleast a functional phone. Our project will be an automated text messaging service as the messaging expenses can be covered by donors, and the texts can be easily translatable for families who speak different languages. In order to fund this project, we would put in a funding application to a named organisation, which is a similar strategy used by the third-sector organisations we got in touch with. We would also collaborate with existing donation banks who could provide the resources. Lastly, we would also rely on donations via a “wishlist”, so that we can direct the funds to exactly what we need, but also so that donors can see how their money will be utilised. We would downscale our project to begin with so we can easily track distribution. We would start by collaborating with an organisation who already has a trusted relationship with this population, in order for them to distribute the kits. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Trinity Entrepreneurial Society The Incubator Program is a structured initiative designed to support student entrepreneurs in developing and launching their business ideas. After a successful year, the program is returning with a new two-phase format aimed at increasing participation and diversity in student-led startups. The first phase, known as the Talent Accelerator, will take place during the first semester and will involve around 30 students. These participants will form teams and begin developing their business ideas. This phase lowers the barriers to entry, allowing a larger pool of students to engage with the program. At the end of the semester, the top five teams will be chosen to advance to the second phase. During the second semester, these teams will enter the Incubator phase. Here, they will focus on meeting key milestones, known as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to unlock funding and advance their ventures. The program will conclude with a Demo Day in late February, where the finalist teams will showcase their progress and prepare for the Dragons' Den final pitch competition. The Incubator Program offers a structured, supportive environment for student entrepreneurs to grow their ideas into fully formed startups, providing valuable resources and mentorship along the way. Being an aware and responsible youth, through our project "WasteSmart ICT: Say No to Landfills," our primary goal is to develop a zero-waste plan for our university. We aim to whittle away the garbage disposal in landfills and find practical solutions to ensure the repurposing and reprocessing of every waste within the premises- making the institute "self-sufficient." Beginning by conducting a waste audit to get a gist of the current waste management system and the economics involved, we vision to proceed towards addressing the unsustainable aspects of it. This includes spreading awareness about the importance of waste segregation, such as dry and wet waste, biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, and their appropriate disposal. Post identification, looking through technically feasible interventions to go zero-waste, and updating the institute's waste policies will be aimed, thereby lessening the number of garbage truck visits. Few of us collectively would be responsible for forming a novel club at ICT addressing the multitude of dimensions required for sustainable changes. Initiating waste management, we would later branch out into avenues focusing on other SDGs. "None of us is as smart as all of us!" About the Millennium Fellow I'm Musharraf Imam.
