I am looking forward to learning more from them about how they consciously work to help solve complex global issues. These are initiatives and people I am confident will shape my mindset and how I choose to move forward in my career. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Global Living and Learning Community I am the community programming lead and residential assistant for the Global Living Community (GLC) at Georgetown University. As the community leader, I spearhead activities and events to facilitate exposure to under acknowledged world issues. This learning also occurs informally through the cross-cultural connections made through shared living spaces, conversations, and opportunities to develop friendships. My vision for this living community is to look critically into and beyond what global news sources are showing us in order to discover more about the populations whose challenges, we as a global community, are oblivious to. The Global Living Community has 28 residential participants. During this past 4-month time period we held 10 events around the theme of global understanding. At the beginning of the Fall Semester, there was a retreat for members to get to know one another through cultural exercises. The GLC also regularly holds “global dinners,” where a member of Georgetown’s faculty is invited to share a meal and a conversation of current global issues with students. This is an opportunity for students to engage with renowned faculty outside of the traditional classroom setting, as well as engage with recent news on a more intimate and conversational level. In order to accomplish this goal of shaping deeper insight, I invite partners with expertise beyond my own to share their experiences with the GLC. This includes Georgetown and School of Foreign Service faculty and researchers, GLC residents, and the 2019 UN Millennium cohort of students with their projects pushing forward the agendas of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The ideas and project I did was from a smaller boundary. Bigger opportunities like Millennium Fellowship are far more than someone can expect. So the advantage of being a Millennium Fellowship member will be a huge stepping stone in my life since the area of field has increased massively. Promoting ideas of entrepreneurship and promoting an effective idea and giving equal opportunities can come up with a lot of brilliant minds. A mind with dedication and a brain with ideas are the flesh with future. Farmers being the most important factor in economic development, providing enough support and help to them evidently contribute to economic development. If i got a bigger spoon the field i work will be comparatively huge. Bringing up young minds in competing themselves And supporting their ideas in development, it would be revolutionary. - Leah Golubchik | University of Pennsylvania
Leah Golubchik is from Los Angeles and is currently a student in the Huntsman Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She is studying Finance and International Studies and minoring in Russian Studies. She has always been passionate about aiding refugees, as both of her parents came to the US as political refugees from Poland and Ukraine. After founding a club in high school to raise awareness and directly aid refugees, she learned about how important this issue was, and unfortunately, how much people ignored that it even existed. With the current war in Ukraine and the outflux of millions of refugees forced to flee their homes, Leah hopes to create a platform that every refugee can access to get the help they need as efficiently as possible. I believe that young people are the change-makers of the world, and if we all work together, we can make extraodinary progress around the world as a team. Along with this, my greatest value in life is global education and collaboration, therefore the opportunity to brainstorm and take action in alliance with people from all over the world is life-changing for me. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Bridge to Ukraine I would like to create some sort of platform (app or website) that refugees from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War could use for any support they need. This would include housing, jobs, schooling, food, or anything else that would aid them during these traumatic times. It would act as a social chat site where Ukranians could voice their needs and people could directly connect with them with aid. These refugees need help now, and there is a lack of infrastructure for them to get it quickly and efficiently, so I would create the foundation for these people to get the help they need. I was impressed by what this organization stands for and even during the application process, which is the very beginning of this journey, I felt that I was one step closer to my goals. Millennium Fellowship is a great opportunity for me to work collaboratively with others, become a part of a global community, and gain skills to create more solid, creative, and sustainable social impact projects. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Omerdeyim: Student Portal Omerdeyim: Student Portal is a website to gather a community for sharing lecture notes, tutoring, socializing and studying together. As the pandemic caused students to have weaker connections with their academic life, limited their social relations and diminished their motivation we detected the need for an online social center. Through omerdeyim.com, anyone who desires to learn can collaborate on enhancing the standards of their learning process. The project aimed to develop the educational standards during the pandemics, as online education is both a challenge and an opportunity for the learning environment. By creating a website that is designed to share notes, educational links, tutor/teacher advice, course feedback etc. and meet to study together and support each other online mentally and motivationally. By the help of Millennium Fellowship, we are planning to extend the scale of the platform and aim to reach more people motivated to study whether they are university students or someone that aims to grow his/her knowledge on the available content hopefully within August-December 2021.
