" Millennium Fellowship Project: Youth4Health Youth 4 Heath is a group project by Millennium Fellows Maggie Gachigi, Laura Awuor, and Kelvin Maina. Youth 4 Health aims at addressing challenges faced by Kenyan adolescents and youth, in regard to sexual reproductive health. A recent health survey by the ministry of health in Kenya showed that HIV/AIDs has been on the rise in the past two years. 14 to 28 years being the most prevalent age group and more in females. Additionally, it was established to be prevalent in the poor population groups in Nairobi and its outskirts. The aim of the project is to promote health education and promotion of HIV/AIDs spread and prevention, contraception, menstrual health, and stigma on unintended pregnancy outside the school curriculum. HIV/AIDs was inculcated into Kenya's health system more than 15 years ago. Initially, the impact was significant. However, we have realized most Kenyan students view HIV/AIDs theoretically and study to pass exams. Therefore, we found it important to spread awareness about the disease in a setting different from the academic one by using social media brand influencers on tik-tok, Instagram, and Twitter and designing cartoons and skits to create awareness. The project also aims to recruit at least 200 students at the University of Nairobi to carry out outreach programs in home residences. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Project PonVizhi Project PonVizhi, consisting of eight undergraduate students, is an organisation that aims to raise awareness about sexual assault, domestic abuse, and child sexual harassment in particular. We aim to educate people on the steps that can be taken to report harassment and seek help in terms of their mental well-being. The target audience of the program is school and college students. When we were school students, there were no committees or legal mechanisms that provided redressals to child sexual harassment survivors or conducted events to spread awareness on gender rights and sexual harassment prevention in our schools or in other educational establishments like coaching centers. Cases of child sexual harassment often go unreported. We seek to raise awareness among kids and young adults (both girls and boys this time, as our educational systems often leave boys out of this) on what counts as harassment, because abuse comes in all forms, and goes much deeper than “good touch and bad touch”. We intend to push educational establishments to have POSH centres. Also, if possible, educate parents, teachers, and guardians on how to respond to children when they confide in them. As a survivor of sexual assault, it is difficult to navigate a world that turns a blind eye towards victims. Through this program, we aspire to create a community that will provide a safe space and support for people, particularly, girls and women who have been through abuse and sexual assault. Myungsung Medical College | Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 2 Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering Youth for Community Health Impact These issues emerged from the problems I observed during my clinical attachments, community rural attachments, and most of all my experience in the Family medicine Unit (presently known as the Primary Health Care Center, which contains a bigger capacity and is anticipated to supply high-quality essential wellbeing care to financially distraught parts of our community on everyday premise for around 200 patients) and clinical connections at subsidiary clinics. During my time there I perceived poor medical literacy among patients that came there for care as well as dishonorable and ineffectual pharmaceutical and therapeutic utilization of drugs and medical equipment used for care, such as a metered-dose inhaler (MDI), which may be a gadget that conveys a particular sum of drugs to the lungs within the frame of a brief burst of aerosolized medication that's regularly self-administered by the understanding through inward breath. (In our setup, it is the foremost regularly utilized conveyance gadget for treating Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and other respiratory disarranges.) Given the context of my observations, my Millennium Fellowship project will require me to explore these observations through collaborative projects with students at my university. We will produce health information leaflets in languages patients understand (Amharic and Afan Oromo), highlighting the most common health issues in our area. Another goal of this project is to create demonstration videos on metered dose inhaler use in asthmatics, self-foot examination in diabetic patients, and medication advice for chronic non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma. Our flyers and demonstration videos are reviewed by experts in the field before appearing on waiting room screens, social media platforms, and the university's website. " Millennium Fellowship Project: Skill For All Skill For All is an independent project led by Janet Apochi, a Millenium Fellow of the 2022 class. In today's world, particularly in developing countries, the need to learn a skill has become necessary. Skill For All seeks to introduce vocational skills to the most senior students in High School (Secondary school), who would be out of school soon, and looking to enter into University. The project aims to introduce Vocational skills like IT/Tech skills and bag and shoe making to the students, so they can engage in them while they await their entry into the University. Some of these students may make such skills their part-time or full-time source of income, as they please. Many students do not know the opportunities available to them. While it is good to aim for white-collar jobs, it's also important to show them how they could create jobs for themselves, so they don't become a burden to their families and society at large. During the Millennium Fellowship period, the project Skill For All will host a one-day program at a Secondary school in the community. It'll be a mix of the shoe and bag-making workshop, IT/Tech skills talk, and general career talk. We aim to reach about 100 students during this event.
